Rails Girls: Getting More Girls into Programming
Getting more girls into programming world— Rails Girls is coming to HK again on May 13–14, 2016.
Rails Girls was founded by Linda Liukas and Karri Saarinen back in November 2010. The first event, held in Helsinki, got over 100 interested girls along to a web development workshop.
Since then the free events have expanded to places like Shanghai, Singapore, Tallinn, Berlin, Krakow and have attracted thousands of girls to the world of web building.
On May 13–14, 2016 Rails Girls will be coming to Hong Kong again. This will be the 4th time it has come to town. As an organiser of Rails Girls in the place I grew up, I have a strong desire to promote web development to our local community and across both genders.
Rails Girls aims to open up technology and make it more approachable for girls and women.
The weekend event is free and open to all enthusiastic girls and women. Rails Girls wants to empower girls to build the capacity and acquire the tools to conquer the last online frontier. We are a fully non-profit operation — the events are organized together with local sponsors.
Since our first time on 13 May 2013, we have been helping hundreds of girls start their own web projects. Rails Girls also provides a great opportunity to gather developers in the community together. The community can collectively coach and pass along experience and knowledge to new comers.
Our next Rails Girls event is this weekend, as part of the AngelHack Week. We are fortunate to have some great support from our local sponsors. Event details can be found below:
